I was laid off. Now what?

First, you will usually be entitled to unemployment benefits for 6-9 months. Yes, it is probably less than you were making.

Can I get anything else?

Yes, you may be entitled to more than unemployment. By law some companies have to give 1-2 months of pay and by custom some companies give a severance. You may also holiday or sick days. Finally, all employers must give you the option of extending your health coverage.

What should I pay?

It is always best to buy food and keep the house going; utilities and then mortgage. The next thing is to keep your car payments up because the car is the one thing that can literally be taken from you in the middle of the night.
